Saturday, April 16 was a sun-splashed day to remember for 40 intrepid art seekers who joined the private WCC tour, led by Steve Oliver himself, of the famed Oliver Ranch in Sonoma County. The outdoor art installations commissioned by Steve and Nancy Oliver and installed on their sprawling and spectactular Sonoma property defy description, but here are a few views of what we experienced.
Steve Oliver explains the series of incomprehensibly dense blocks created by Richard Serra.
Approaching Ann Hamilton's startling eight-foot tower...
...and exploring the dizzying interior, ringed by a double-helix staircase, where performance art takes full advantage of the structure's astonishing accoustics.
Happy campers, at the conclusion of the tour.
Many thanks to the generous WCC supporters who joined our tour, and especially to Steve and Nancy Oliver, for giving us this opportunity to view world-class art in a setting without peer.
