Back on May 21, we launched our summer/fall WriterCoach Connection fundraising drive with the third annual Read-and-Write-a-thon (RWAT). WCC volunteers read nonstop for ten hours in the library at Willard Middle School in Berkeley, and contributions, which had begun pouring in well in advance of the event, accelarated and have been coming in ever since. In an astonishing display of the power of commitment and passion, donors have contributed more than $24,000 toward our $25,000 goal.
Only about $900 to go! We're still gratefully accepting RWAT donations at http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/writercoach-connection/rwat, where contributing is fast and secure. You can also save us the 7% cut the donation vendor takes by mailing a check, payable to Community Allliance for Learning (or "CAFL") to PO Box 6098, Albany, CA 94706.
Wasn't so long ago, that sunny Saturday in May, when we were reading to rapt audiences all day in the Willard library. Here's CAFL board chair Kathy Kahn, presenting The Devil and Daniel Webster:
