Sarah Shields, a coach at King Middle School, came up with a heartfelt way to spread the word about donating funds to support WriterCoach Connection. But here, I'll let her tell it:
"For my birthday I asked my partner Kirk and my daughter Evelyn to donate
to WCC, thereby spreading 'brownie points' around in multiple ways:
they know their gift is what I want and will go directly to a good cause
and will get them a tax benefit; I get to keep doing what I really love to do
in my volunteering endeavors.
"The idea is really a more personal variation of giving friends or relatives a
(Christmas) gift of Heiffer International animals."
Sarah adds that the idea of gifting in the name of charities actually came from her daughter, "...who was fed up with the materialism of Christmas and enveloped all of us into foregoing traditional gifts and finding special charities to support."
We're so grateful to Sarah, Kirk, and Evelyn for finding such a meaningful way to respond to a special birthday wish! Bob Menzimer
